Accountants to sell art works

Published on: 08-Jan-2008
Accountancy firms Deloitte and Arthur Andersen are to sell a combined collection of 448 art works.

The pieces, accumulated over a period of 40 years, will be sold on Thursday at the Royal Academy.

They include works by Patrick Caulfield, Bridget Riley, Patrick Heron, Elisabeth Frink and Gilbert and George.

It is thought that the whole collection is worth between £750,000 and £1 million.

Nick Curnow, of sale auctioneers Lyon and Turnbull, told AccountancyAge: "This will be one of the most extensive art collections to appear on the auction market in recent years.

"The Deloitte Art Collection has great strength and depth due to its acquisition of the former Arthur Andersen Art Collection in 2002, which was one of the first Corporate Art Collections to be formed in the United Kingdom."

Arthur Andersen, once one of the "Big Five" accountancy firms, hit the headlines in 2002 when it was found guilty of obstructing justice by shredding the documents of failed energy giant Enron.
