A watercolour painted by Hitler has fetched $40,000 at auction.Manion's International Auction House sold the 1911 picture of Vienna's Votivkirche by the dictator.
There is no indication in the picture, of the character traits that would ultimately turn him into a reviled despot bringing untold misery and death to millions around the world.
John Conway, Manion's representative, who has seen a number of Hitler's paintings over the years, told website News-Antique.com: "To look at these renditions, one would think the hand that held the brush belonged to a gentle man but history has revealed the opposite."
He went on to say that his pictures always "amaze" him and were an "interesting glimpse into the soul of one of the most infamous figures in world history".
Manion's is the world's leading online auction house, specialising in historical military collectibles.
It was founded in 1970, has over 50,000 members and auctions over 20,000 items a month.
