Churchill painting sells for £468,500

A painting given by wartime leader Winston Churchill to US president Harry Truman has sold for £468,500.The work, a landscape, entitled Marrakech was auctioned by Truman's daughter Margaret Truman Daniel who inherited it after her father died in 1972.
Churchill, who led Britain through World War II presented the picture to the president in 1951.
Ms Truman's son, Clifton Daniel, said, according to an interview with Bloomberg news told Bloomberg that his mother auctioned the work at Sotheby's in London as part of her "estate planning" and that "the market is good for it".
Describing how his grandfather "was not a wealthy man" he went on to say: "He said repeatedly that he would not enrich himself trading on the presidency."
"It's a source of frustration, and pride to the family," he said.
Prices for Churchill's works have recently started to soar.
A landscape with sheep he painted sold in July for a record £1 million.
