Dennis Hopper, the legendary actor and director, will be on Merseyside next week.

The 72-year-old is due to present the Turner prize at the Tate Liverpool.

The prize is among the most prestigious in the art world. It has been awarded each year since 1984.

To qualify, artists must either be British, or working in Britain, and under the age of 50.

The four artists short-listed for the 2007 award are Zarina Bhimji, Nathan Coley, Mike Nelson and Mark Wallinger.

The ceremony takes place on Monday December 3rd.

Hopper is understood to be a fan of the Turner prize and is himself an artist and photographer.

He has starred in films in six different decades, establishing a reputation as an unconventional and bold actor.

Perhaps his most famous role was alongside Peter Fonda in the controversial 1969 road story, Easy Rider.
