Urban art gets Bonhams debut

Work by a number of street artists including Banksy will go on sale at Bonhams next year. The auction house has announced its first even urban art event, which will take place in February at its New Bond Street saleroom.
As well Banksy, other urban artists including Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Antony Micallef and Adam Neate will also have work up for sale.
"Urban art is art at its most accessible, available in the public arena for universal appreciation," said Gareth Williams, urban art specialist at Bonhams.
"However, by definition it is also an ephemeral art form, often disappearing as fast as it appears.
"By transposing their images from street wall to canvas, urban artists are now creating a permanent legacy without compromising the vitality of their art form and it is these works which are currently taking the market by storm," he added.
Pieces up for grabs include Laugh Now and Kate Moss by Banksy and Keith Haring's Pop VI.
In April this year, Bonhams auctioned off Banksy's Space Girl and Bird for £288,000.
