Lottery windfall helps body painters

A charity that helps stressed out isolated women who feel trapped in their own homes has received a Lottery fund windfall.

The award of £8,381 from the 'Awards for All' scheme was made to Clitheroe's Tamanna group, which provides emotional support and methods for de-stressing, such as henna body painting.

It also provides exercise, healthy eating and anger management training.

Tamanna was started four years ago and helps women, particularly with young children, who find it difficult to socialise.

Shabana Sheraz, a fundraiser for Tamanna, told the Clitheroe Advertiser & Times paper: "They thought henna painting would be particularly relaxing."

The Big Lottery Fund administers the small grants scheme, Awards for All, which makes donations of between £300 and £10,000 to community and voluntary groups.

It has been criticised widely in recent years for its perceived slowness in processing grant applications.
