Interior designer creates calm after divorce

Published on: 13-Nov-2007
Interior designer Nia Morris has bounced back from the trauma of a divorce by creating a whole new look for her house.

Ms Morris decided after her recent break up that she needed something to lift the gloom.

She found that re-designing and painting the interior of her home was akin to counselling sessions, she told The Times.

Even her three children got involved choosing their own wallpaper and colour combinations including the eldest, Harry, picking a retro print that reminded him of David Hicks' work.

"I think it's essential to maintain a sense of calm at home," she told the paper.

Ms Morris is not your average interior designer having given up a high-flying career as a lawyer in a top City firm.

She said that she felt like an impostor and while most of her colleagues were reading the FT she was "leafing through Vogue and Wallpaper."

While other lawyers preferred sombre suits, she was decked out in Chloe, Marni and Top Shop.
