A world famous eye hospital and a golf club scooped two top gongs at an Interior Design award show.

The Commercial Interior Design Awards, held at Dubai's Grosvenor House hotel recognise regional, international design firms and individuals contributing to the oil-rich gulf state's infrastructure.

Hamilton International won the best public sector or institutional design for its innovative 'peacock eye' creation for Moorfields eye hospital in Dubai.

The judges said the hospital, designed by Mohamed Kafel, perfectly blended aesthetic beauty and function.

Moorfield's medical director, Dr Chris Canning, said: "Although we did not set out expressly to create a facility that was cutting-edge in design and unique in colour, lighting and architectural form that is exactly what Mohamed Kafel gave us."

The sophisticated and sleek interiors of the Four Seasons golf club, Dubai, won the award in the Entertainment and Leisure category.

Designers Yabu Pushelberg blended dark wood, steel and modern art to achieve the unique vibe, the judges said.

The event handed out awards to a total of 12 projects and design teams.
