Bob Dylan exhibits paintings

Published on: 06-Nov-2007
Legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan is, for the first time ever, exhibiting his sketches and paintings.

The exhibition is taking place in a Museum in Chemnitz, in eastern Germany and features a series of watercolour and pastel pictures.

Still life pieces, cityscapes and landscapes, produced by Dylan between 1989 and 1992 for a book entitled 'Drawn Blank' are also included.

A highlight of the collection is the painting of a curvaceous woman done while he was drinking in the Red Lion pub in Blackpool 1992.

Art historian Frank Zoellner told the New Musical Express (NME) the style of the works very much echoed the restless style of Dylan's music, especially pictures of the insides of hotel bedrooms.

He added: "The landscapes are very peaceful… on stage Dylan never plays any song the same way twice."

The exhibition is a collaboration with museum director Ingrid Mossinger, who came across Dylan's artwork on a visit to New York.
