A series of steel sculptures by a Sydney-based artist has scooped $30,000 at a major exhibition.David Horton won the prize at the annual 'Sculpture by the Sea' which features art stretched over two kilometres of the Australian Bondi to Tamarana coast.
He was, reportedly, "surprised and blown away" by the accolade bestowed on his abstract steel work of angles, arches and loops, titled 'Yesternight'.
Mr Horton, a 34-year-old arts teacher, describing the sacrifices he had to make to complete the sculpture in time, told the Sydney Daily Herald: "After teaching I would have to stay back of a night just to work on the sculptures."
"I've been a bit of an absent father for bed time," he added.
The artists said he planned to go on a massive spending spree to buy presents for his wife and two young sons in compensation for his long absences.
Over 100 sculptures were exhibited at this year's 'Sculpture by the Sea', featuring a combination of abstract art, ants and giant kangaroos.
