'Fakes' artist set for movie

Published on: 26-Oct-2007
A British artist who duped the world with his realistic copies of top artworks is set to have his life turned into a movie.

John Myatt has fooled many of the globe's top art critics in the 1980's with his stunningly accurate copies of masterworks and now Hollywood is set to produce a movie of his deceptions, with Clive Owen lined up to play him, the Birmingham Post reports.

Commenting on his exposure, Myatt told the publication: "I don't think I would have believed this was happening if I hadn't met the writers and producers for myself, but I understand the money is there so it's not a case of if but a case of when."

He added: "Clive Owen has also expressed his interest in the project, del comma and it would be great to have a 'local boy' playing me in the film."

Myatt's copy of Monet's Waterlilies sold for £45,000 at auction, which was part of a fraud which landed with a 12 month jail sentence.
