Laing praises affordable art fairs

Iconic British pop artist Gerald Laing has praised the advent of a number of affordable art fairs.London now has two fairs, where the maximum price of a piece is £3,000 and the trend has caught on across parts of western Europe and in north America, Reuters reports.
And Laing claims that the fairs are crucial in helping artists feel at home amidst the advent of incredibly expensive pieces.
Laing told the news agency: "This is a refuge for the artists too, because they feel sidelined by this stuff quite naturally.
"One of things about success in the contemporary art world is that once an image is recognised it gains in value. It is often about the singer and not the song in the contemporary art world."
He added: "People have got to start somewhere. This is a wonderful way for artists to interact with the public and for the public to do so with them."
Recently Laing created an artwork entitled 'The Kiss' featuring Amy Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
