A small Cornish charity have managed to attract widespread interest in a fundraising artwork auction. The organisers had initially hoped for a good response from a range of local artists and were surprised to find that their efforts were causing celebrity interest.
Spectrum, the charity arranging the exhibition to help re-develop to old buildings, received a sketch from Damien Hirst, two paintings from Stella Vine and donations from David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Cher, the Independent reports.
Commenting on the spectacular interest in the auction, Sarah Miller, a manager at Spectrum, told the publication: "We pitched it on a Cornish level, but after we talked to the artist Paul McGowan, news began to spread and I had artists phoning me saying 'I know someone who's involved. Can you take a picture from me too?'"
She added: "It wasn't a very public campaign but people came to us. Many artists wanted to be associated with the charity because they identified with the cause."
