The re-drawn designs for the new Turner gallery have been given a warm welcome. The new plans are centred around the theme of light, with the Turner Contemporary building now spanning two floors.
Original plans had the building spread across three storeys, the BBC reports.
Commenting on the proposals, the architect David Chipperfield, told the broadcaster: "If you do a good project, if you make a good institution where you get the architecture, the idea and the role in the community right - then you can be guaranteed that people will come and look at it."
He added: "We have taken advantage of a dramatic setting with extraordinary views."
The plans are subject to a planning application and, if given the green light, the new Turner Gallery could be completed by 2010.
The new proposals are expected to cost £17.5 million, much less than the original plans, which were expected to be priced in the region of £50 million.
