French woman could face fine for artwork kiss

A French woman could face a fine after she kissed an artwork at an exhibition in Avignon, France.

Rindy Sam, also an artist, planted a smacker on a painting by American artist Cy Twombly - leaving a huge red lipstick mark on the piece.

Explaining her actions, the 30-year-old said: "I just gave it a kiss.

"It was an act of love; when I kissed it, I wasn't thinking. I thought the artist would understand."

The all-white painting is worth nearly $3 million (£1.5 million) and the prosecution has urged the court to impose a fine of £3,150 on the 'vandal'.

Meanwhile, also in France, police are hoping to find a group of vandals who punched a hole in a Claude Monet masterpiece.

A small group of youths broke into the Orsay Museum on Paris's Left Bank and punctured a ten centimere hole in the Le Pont d'Argenteuil artwork.
