Theatre set to house artwork

A theatre in East Anglia may be set for a transformation into a new art gallery.

Eye Theatre, a quaint property that could host up to 80 drama aficionados, could be part-converted to host local canvas works.

The building is currently disused following the end of production at the theatre two years ago due to lack of interest.

Local resident John Hensley purchased the theatre following its closure and is thought to have the support of officials to turn the property into a gallery, Suffolk and Essex online reports.

Project manager for the proposals, Mel Dellow, told the publication: "I am trying to make that building better in terms of its structure, to make sure it is safe and watertight and to use it to its potential and create businesses for Eye."

Mr Hensley may face competition from a group of local thespians who hope to bring back the theatre but the final decision rests in the hands of the Mid Suffolk District Council.
