Pair team-up to provide art for community

An unlikely duo have agreed to join forces to provide artwork for their home town of Gainsborough.

Textile artist Julie Willoughby and sculptor Mick Ford are bringing art to the masses of the Lincolnshire town as part of the Art on the Map scheme.

Both artists will sell their work at an open studio and will be providing a masterclass for any potential Picasssos and would-be Rembrandts, the Lincolnshire Echo reports.

Explaining how he found his way in the world of sculpture, Mr Ford told the publication: "I'm a late starter in that I was 30 when I decided to leave my job as a tree surgeon and concentrate on sculpture at art college.

"But I continued to work with wood because its beauty encouraged me.

He added: "Visitors to the workshops will see that I use all sorts of rescued materials.

"In the case of my most recent works, they range from parts of a toaster to a fridge radiator."
