Galleries fight for African artwork

Ten UK galleries and museums are set to slug it out - with the victor gaining the honour of hosting an exhibition of contemporary African art.Art Fund International are sending judges around various locations across the isles to find an appropriate home for a series of collections from outside the continent.
And five winners will be given £1 million grants to help display and market the new pieces.
Commenting on the proposals, Tom Trevor a director at Arnolfini, said: "The scheme is the missing link between contemporary art organisations and institutions with permanent collections. It's crucial to encourage this culture of collecting."
And Neil MacGregor at the British Museum added: "It is great news that the fund will now be helping museums and galleries all around the country to buy and to show great things being made beyond Europe and North America... Hurrah for the Art Fund."
Among the short listed applicants are Falmouth Art Gallery, who are working in conjunction with the Eden project.
