Contemporary artwork too conceptual

Published on: 03-Oct-2007
A contemporary artist was surprised to find that his installation was so conceptual that one member of the public did not even realise it was a work of art.

Memorial to the Loss of Innocence, a piece on childhood tragedy, by Bob Aldouf incorporated a pair of discarded trainers.

But unfortunately, not realising they were part of the installation, someone handed the footwear in as lost property, yourlocalguardian.co.uk reports

Seeing the humorous side of the incident, Mr Aldouf told the publication: "It was quite funny, really. They were meant to look discarded and someone has sort of got that but not got it in terms of the art.

"When they went missing we assumed they had been stolen and scoured the security tapes to see what had happened to them."

He added: "But then one of the library staff came in after finding the shoes in the lost property pile.

"She said someone came into the exhibit and thought the shoes had been left and handed them in."
