A Masters graduate will exhibit a series of artworks depicting his take on the attitudes surrounding ecological concerns.

Khaleel Akhter, will have his unique work on display in the Python Gallery at Royal Middlehaven House in Middlesbrough, which he hopes will provoke discussion on the media portrayal of world issues, the Northern Echo reports.

Explaining his work, the artist told the publication: "My paintings are in response to current global issues such as climate change and poverty.

"The figures in each painting - man, woman and child - are wearing headphones, which create a visual barrier between them and what is happening around them."

He added: "I wanted the images to echo how we react to what we see in the media, it is easy to cocoon yourself from these issues when they do not affect you directly."

The exhibition, entitled Fresh from the Oven, also features work from other graduates – many of whom have been shortlisted for design awards.
