D&G use dresses as canvas

Italian fashion giants Dolce & Gabanna have debuted a range of outfits inspired by contemporary art.

The stylish gowns looked as if they had been splashed with flecks of paint - reminiscent of the work of modern abstract canvas painters.

Commenting on the gowns and their inspiration, Stefano Gabbana, one half of the iconic duo, simply said: "We decided to dedicate a collection to contemporary art."

And explaining that he borrowed the non-aggressive fluidity of modern abstract canvas art for the collection, Domenico Dolce added: "There are no bows, no flowers, no lace. It's very linear, so rather than romantic, we call it sensual."

Meanwhile, staff at the Oslo Museum of Modern Art were shocked to discover that the famous Damien Hirst piece, Mother and Child Divided, had sprung a leak.

The 1993 Turner Prize winning artwork is made up of four glass tanks containing formaldehyde and pieces of a cow and a calf.
