Thrifty painter displays artworks

Published on: 27-Sep-2007
A talented, spend-conscious, abstract portrait painter will be displaying his artwork in the Belmont Cinema in Aberdeen.

Michael Penston turned his hand to the brush a few years ago when he wanted some unique artwork for his flat but couldn't afford it, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports.

Explaining how he picked up his artform, Mr Penston told the publication: "I started thinking about taking up art on my 28th birthday.

"And the reason I really did it in the end was because I wanted paintings on my walls but couldn't afford them. The first year they weren't so hot but they really started to shape up in 2005. My favourite ones are my latest.

"I like drawing people because every subject is unique. A lot of the people I don't even know - something about them just interests me."

Visitors to the exhibition, running until October 24th, can pick up a Penston original from £200.
