Thoughtful artwork pricks public conscience

Thought provoking artwork, portraying women trafficked as sex slaves, has opened to acclaim in Trafalgar Square. The images, which have been painted onto the side of transport containers, are deliberately shocking and controversial to raise awareness of the serious nature of the issue.
And there is a weight of celebrity backing behind the piece including actress Emma Thompson, Helen Bamber a human rights campaigner and Sam Roddick daughter of the late Anita Roddick, thisislondon.co.uk reports.
Commenting on the work, Thompson told the publication: "Londoners are not aware of sex trafficking, but it's right on their doorstep.
"Last year I met a woman whose life had been taken away through trafficking. She had been around the corner from my house in a massage parlour.
"I felt that because it is the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade, we had an opportunity to highlight the slave trade still going on."
