Disabled painter to reveal artwork

Published on: 24-Sep-2007
An inspirational Scottish artist who cannot use his arms or his legs will have his unique artwork displayed.

Edward Rainey, a former soldier, became paralysed from the neck down after injuring himself in swimming pool accident.

The 46-year-old uses his mouth to hold his paintbrush and create his highly-regarded, sought after pieces, reports the Herald.

Mr Rainey told the publication: "A lot of people think you can't do anything with your life if you are confined to a wheelchair.

"This exhibition is about my evolvement as an artist after becoming paralysed from the neck down.

"It shows that some positivity can be gained from the negativity of being in a wheelchair."

Mr Rainey will display more than 20 of his best paintings and sculptures in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow from the 3rd to the 29th October.

The exhibition is part of the work of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association, a group which represents disabled artists who are unable to use their hands.
