Constable artwork nets owner £40,000

A trio of early artworks by the legendary artist John Constable earned the lucky owner almost £40,000 when they went under the hammer.Auctioned at Bonhams in London, the priciest painting was A Rider And Companion Crossing A Bridge which sold for £18,600, eadt.co.uk reports.
The other two paintings A Mountainous Landscape and A River In A Hilly Valley, were snapped up by the same buyer for £10,800 and £10,200 respectively.
Prior to the auction a spokesperson for Bonhams told the Suffolk Evening Star: "Constable painted the three watercolours in his early twenties, at a time when he faced a crossroads in his life.
"He was still very unsure whether to become a professional painter or to take on his father's lucrative corn mill."
She added: "The paintings date from a time when Constable was still developing his technique, he had yet to acquire a concrete style and seems to have been influenced by other artists such as Ramsay Reinagle."
The three paintings exceeding expectation as initial estimates suggested that they could fetch the owner £30,000.
