Street art turned into work of art

Cornish street artists are joining forces to create a range of graffiti artworks to be part of a public exhibition.

The young artists, along with the Bodmin Town Council, aim to show vandals that canvas can replace public property as a more valid medium of expression, the Cornish Guardian reports.

Explaining the thinking behind the innovative new scheme, Cllr Linda Spear said: "The youngsters themselves wanted to show that there is a right time and place for them to produce their graffiti, and there were some wonderful examples done on the day.

She added: "It was done as part of Clean Cornwall Week and everything produced will go on public display in the near future."

In other urban art news, a mysterious artist in a Cumbrian village painted an attractive artwork over the boardings of an abandoned pub.

Working under the cover of darkness the painter transformed the appearance of the building, which residents had claimed was an eyesore.
