Scots protest by-pass with contemporary art
Published on: 17-Sep-2007
Residents of Aberdeen have expressed their concern at a new by-pass in an innovative and creative way - displaying their artwork. The exhibition will feature a multitude of artistic medium from paintings and photographs to ceramics and sculpture, each aimed at protesting the proposed road changes, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports.
Commenting on the by-pass and the exhibition, artist Hazel Irvine-Fortescue told the publication: "It would be unbearable. I am not a political campaigner but I am an artist.
"I saw others collecting signatures and petitions and wondered what I could do to help.
"This seemed like a good way of expressing how I feel about it and raising public awareness of the issue as many people believe it is already a done deal."
The exhibition, from which most of the proceeds will be donated to fight the by-pass, recently opened at The Workshop near Marycutler and will end on September 24th.
