A public facility in the capital has become part-toilet and part-art galley after it was officially opened today.

The loo-rrific contraption is situated in Soho and it is aimed at children and disabled people who need a little sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the region, according to 24dash.com.

Artworks completed by local artists and youngsters will adorn the walls and the first person to be featured is photographer, Elaine Duigenan.

Delighted with the new cubicle, cllr Alan Bradley told the website: "The toilet is a wonderful idea and it is been a pleasure to work with the local community in delivering such a central feature to the area. Not only is the toilet functional but it's also a piece of art."

The toilet cubicle cost an estimated £52,000 to complete and all the artwork featured will represent 'Soho's singularity'.

Meanwhile, Birmingham is getting ready to host ArtsFest 2007 - a festival featuring traditional and performance art.
