Diana commemorated with canvas artwork

Published on: 03-Sep-2007
A Grimsby man marked the tenth anniversary of the death of Princess Diana by creating a unique 3D canvas portrait of her.

Phong Tran, a 62-year-old artist, creates the pieces by interweaving two images painted in alternating strips - so when you walk by the art you begin to see a different image, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.

Mr Tran, who perfected his technique while in a Vietnamese concentration camp, told the publication: "It is about seeing the three dimensions of the person. It represents the past, the present and the future, and different sides to a person."

He added: "Nobody is perfect, but we can remember the great things people have done through art.

"I only work in this medium for three types of people - those I love, those I respect and those I admire."

Meanwhile, a recent auction of some of the early works of Jack Vettriano fetched more than a combined total £1 million at Sotheby's.
