Published on: 03-Sep-2007
Ryedale will be the unlikely home of a series of artworks in remembrance of the September 11th atrocities.Castle Howard is playing host to the works of New York artist Carl Laubin, who has reproduced the devastation of Ground Zero on canvas, the Ryedale Gazette and Herald reports.
Pleased to have the paintings on show at the stately home, Christopher Ridgeway, the curator of the castle, told the newspaper: "In the six years since the terrible events of 2001 we have all become familiar with images of the scene of destruction, but Carl's paintings offer a different perspective to the countless photographs of the site."
He added: "There is a moving and reflective quality to these pictures - the viewer is invited to contemplate an enormous human tragedy among the wreckage of the skyscrapers."
Laubin's most impressive piece, entitled Elagos, was first exhibited in London five years ago.
