A Cockermouth gallery is set to host an exhibition of contemporary art from across the Cumbria region.

The gallery will feature the works of artists such as Sir Terry Frost, Eric Ward and Mary Stork, with the pieces also up for sale, the Cumberland News reports.

The eagerly anticipated new exhibit is set to open and keen buyers have already snapped up seven of the featured works.

Commenting on the exhibit, Philomena Taylor, who owns the gallery, told the publication: "As soon as I advertised the exhibition, the phone started ringing and people started calling to buy.

"People buy work by artists like Sir Terry Frost, Mary Stork and Eric Ward because their work represents a serious financial investment."

She added: "These are not works that would normally be seen at one gallery in Cumbria.

"I'm pleased and excited and I think it will be very well received by an audience from a wide area."

Meanwhile, a major exhibit at the Museum of London will chart the post-war lives of the capital's residents.
