Vettriano canvas artworks sold for £1 million

Some of the earliest works of contemporary artist Jack Vettriano have sold for more than £1 million at auction at Sotheby's.The auction, which took place at the Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire, saw the artist's painting Bluebird at Bonneville sold for £468,000 alone.
Eight pieces by the Scottish artist were bought in total, collecting more than £1 million - with three other pieces, Dance Me to the End of Love, Study of Shades for Scarlet and The British are Coming all sold for more than six figure sums.
Although it cost almost half a million pounds to purchase, Bluebird at Bourneville is Vettriano's second most expensive painting. The Singing Butler, which the artist received £1,000 to paint, sold for £744,500 in 2004 - the highest sum ever received for a Scottish painting.
Meanwhile, the Midland Air Museum is hosting an exhibition of aviation themed art in Coventry. The event will run until September 1st.
