Gallery mixes art with environment

Far from the canvas art that decorates the walls of most galleries, a lemonade can that flaps its wings when a button is pressed and a chandelier made from plastic-framed glasses are among the recycled artworks currently on display at Flowers East art gallery. The contemporary art exhibition in east London - Says the Junk in the Yard - features innovative pieces made from recycled materials from artists all over the world.
The aim of the exhibition is to examine popular attitudes towards the value attached to objects and their disposable nature.
Sam Chatterton Dickson, curator of the exhibit, explained: "The show will plunge into junk culture and our culture of disposability. One aspect of the exhibition will be recycling and its connection between artists and junk."
Featured artists include such notable talents as Edward Burtynsky, David Hughes, Derek Boshier and Jessica Stockholder, among many others.
Says the Junk in the Yard will be showcased at Flowers East until September 8th. The title for the exhibition was taken from a lyric in the Beatles song 'Junk'. Originally recorded for The White Album, it is considered by most as a critique on consumerism and capitalist excessiveness.
