New gallery opens in supermarket

A unique art gallery has opened in Lytham - inside a supermarket.

The Booths store, in the Lancashire seaside town, will host an exclusive collection of 19th century paintings and is set to open to the public on September 14th.

The new exhibition will feature works by famous local artist Richard Ansdell – who depicted landscapes of the region on canvas, 24 Hour Museum reports.

Delighted to be hosting the exhibition, Graham Booth at Booths told the publication: "With the development of our new Lytham store we recognised an exciting opportunity to display these superb paintings in a purpose built environment.

"This has now become a reality and has created a valuable asset for Fylde."

It is hoped that by displaying the paintings at the supermarket they will attract a different type of gallery visitor.

Councillor Simon Renwick, said: "The Fylde Gallery will be a superb showcase for paintings from the Fylde Collection and we hope that combining the gallery with the supermarket will provide access to the paintings by many who may not otherwise visit an art gallery."
