Southampton set to loan artwork to other cities

Artwork from of a collection of 3,500 and worth more than £130 million is set to be loaned out to art galleries across the country by Southampton City Council.Currently only 200 pieces in the collection are on display in the city's galleries and with 275 out on loan the most is not being made of the collection, the Southern Daily Echo reports.
It is hoped that the council's plans will help get many of the paintings out of storage and on display so they can be enjoyed by the public.
The artwork is set to be offered to a range of institutions from traditional art galleries to other more diverse venues such as cruise ships.
In an effort to get the wall art seen by as many people as possible the pieces are being offered for loan for as little as £75.
Southampton's most popular painting is Turner's Fishermen Upon a Lee-Shore in Squally Weather and can be seen at the city's main gallery.
