The environment is now high on the agenda for millions of homeowners around the world, which is why an innovative US firm is talking up the eco-credentials of its interior designs. With funky interior design also a priority for many homeowners, it is perhaps no surprise that Sesshu Design Associates has decided to combine these two passions.
Tanya Shively, owner and principal designer, claims that all of her interior design ideas are based on environmentally-friendly principles.
"It is just a matter of listening to the clients' particular concerns and presenting them with options that deal with environmental questions as well as the classic elements of design," she said.
"Designing 'green' is actually a series of unique solutions to individual problems that attempt to balance health, environmental, social and aesthetic issues as best as possible. If we aren't offering our clients the information and choices that are ecologically responsible, then we aren't really living up to the promise of our profession."
Sesshu's environmental commitment extends to eco-sensitive flooring, energy-efficient appliances and furnishings which incorporate organic, recycled or sustainable materials.
According to Ms Shively, her firm is able to use recycled soda bottles and tires to satisfy clients, as well as reclaimed wood flooring.
"You are not limited in choice of style, either - we can incorporate eco-friendly products into any interior from traditional Mediterranean styles to ultra-chic contemporary and anything in between," she added.
