Canvas artist responds to animal abuse

Innovative young pop art specialist Nathan Janes has completed a striking new canvas art project based on his concerns about animal abuse. One Nation Under Dog was produced in response to what Janes calls "an epidemic of animal abuse and neglect". The acrylic pop piece is said to be "reminiscent of monastery icon artwork" and it has already attracted a great deal of attention.
It features a saintly dog adorned with a glowing halo, sacred bone and holy garb, as part of Janes' attempt to draw attention to the way that animals are habitually mistreated.
"I think we would all be much better off if more people possessed the same innocence and love that I often see in dogs," he observed.
He added: "If we were 'One Nation Under Dog' we might be a country where more decisions were based on compassion and peace rather than greed and violence."
Janes' focus on the animal kingdom has led critics to dub his work "Pop ARF" and his unique canvas artworks have appeared in exhibitions in the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan.
Art Business News named Janes the Emerging Artist and Trendsetter of the year in 2005 and his reputation as a compassionate canvas artist is continuing to blossom.
