Contemporary art auction to aid homeless youths

A charity for the homeless will soon benefit from a significant financial injection, thanks to an upcoming auction of wall art by internationally-renowned artists.

The auction, organised by Virgin Mobile USA, will see a stunning collection of contemporary art go on sale, with proceeds going to Virgin's The RE*Generation project.

Those interested in decorating their house with wall art will be able to bid on the paintings in November, but the art is already available online at the Regeneration Gallery website.

All of the artists were chosen by gallery curator Rich Jacobs, who decided on the final list on the basis of their "youthful and powerful imagery". They were all required to use 24-inch by 24-inch wood panels and the idea was to convey their own interpretation of being alone and ostracised.

"The RE*Generation Art Gallery and Auction was a successful event last year, contributing to the more than $1 million invested in The RE*Generation and our charitable partners," said Dan Schulman, chief executive of Virgin Mobile USA.

Alix Sloan, consultant and private dealer, added: "The artists participating again this year, as well as those new to The RE*Generation, are thrilled to contribute to this worthwhile project.

"I'm confident these works will produce an extremely successful event for this meaningful cause."

Contributing artists include Diane Barcelowsky, Melinda Beck, Clayton Brothers and Matt Leines. All have taken a unique approach to the subject matter but all have used their canvases to hugely imaginative effect.
