Bob Dylan in surprise canvas art exhibition

Published on: 10-Aug-2007
Top singer, songwriter, poet and author Bob Dylan has unveiled another string to his bow - as a display of his contemporary art pieces gets ready to go on show at a top German museum.

Based on more than 200 paintings published in a 1994 book, The Drawn Blank Series will run for four months at the Art Collections museum in the east German city of Chemnitz from this October.

Dylan's work will be accorded pride of place in the museum's already-strong canvas art collection, which currently features such epic stars as Picasso, Edvard Munch and Toulouse-Lautrec.

"I was fascinated to learn of Ingrid's [museum curator Ingrid Moessinger] interest in my work, and it gave me the impetus to realize the vision I had for these drawings many years ago," commented the Blowin' in the Wind singer.

"If not for this interest, I don't know if I even would have revisited them."

Most of Dylan's canvas art creations come in watercolour and gouache, and many are swathed in vibrant colour schemes.
