Now well-established as part of the city's acclaimed summer festival season, the fourth annual Edinburgh Art Festival is underway again.Featuring an extensive, eclectic and extraordinary range of contemporary art displays and visual art events, the city's art festival aims to showcase the best in international art as well as giving time and space for some of the country's leading young creative lights.
Among the special exhibitions set to entertain contemporary art fans visiting the city this year is a display from Scottish born photojournalist Harry Benson, who captures some of the defining moments of modern life and culture with his snaps of every US president since Eisenhower and a host of major pop icons like the Beatles.
Beyond the Palace Walls at the Royal Museum, meanwhile, brings a collection of rare Islamic art from the walls of the Winter Palace in St Petersburg to Edinburgh - with many of the pieces having never been seen outside of Russia before.
Commenting on the programme of events, Amanda Catto, head of visual arts at the Scottish Arts Council, said: "It is the strength of the visual arts programme and the enthusiasm from the Edinburgh visual arts community that ensures the success of the festival.
"This year I look forward to seeing even more visitors to the participating galleries over the festival period."
The festival began on July 26th, and contemporary art fans can catch up on all the best bits until September 2nd.
