Contemporary art 'god' to collaborate with Kanye

Top hip-hop rapper Kanye West has asked the contemporary art star who is commonly known as 'The Warhol of Japan' to help design a series of cover animations for his upcoming new album.

Uber-cool Tokyo artist Takashi Murakami fuses manga and pop art with finer, traditional styles, and has become the contemporary art voice for a generation of Japanese youngsters as well as millions of others worldwide.

West is a huge fan of the artist, reportedly calling him a 'god in the art world' after a recent meeting, and Murakami will now create all the artwork for Can't Tell Me Nothing and Stronger, two of the singles to be released from West's new album, Graduation.

Murakami's contemporary art cool will also be seen in a three-minute animation for one of the songs and on special merchandise to publicise the new album, which is released on September 11th.

Murakami's art is also set to feature in a major retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in October, while West will be hoping that the artist's influence will help him gain the edge in his high-profile battle with fellow rapper 50 Cent, whose own new album is released on the same day as Kanye's.
