Unique art canvas competition has real body

Published on: 30-Jul-2007
One of the world's quirkiest creative get-togethers has celebrated its tenth anniversary in style this year, as the World Bodypainting Festival once again exclusively used the human frame as its unique art canvas.

Held this year between the 16th and 22nd of July amidst the beautiful mountain setting on Carinthia in southern Austria, the unique art canvas contest acclaims artists who can work on the most challenging of mediums.

This year's event attracted artists from 40 different countries around the globe - including representatives from Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australasia - and asked them to explore the themes of 'Chaos vs Control' and 'In the years 2525…' to create their unique art canvas ideas.

Winners in the prestigious Brush/Sponge category were the British pairing of Carolyn Roper and Carly Utting, edging out US pair Nick and Brian Wolfe and Lucie Brouillard of Canada.

Elsewhere, Udo Schurr of Germany and Patrick McCann of the US won the Airbrush category for a Robocop-style creation, while Patrick Leis, from Denmark, picked up the Special Effects prize for an incredible alien creation that combined costume effects and artistry to create an intriguing futuristic figure.
