Ten museums closer to contemporary art cash boost

Published on: 26-Jul-2007
A group of ten institutions in the UK are a step closer to receiving part of a new fund aimed at developing international contemporary art collections in regional museums and galleries.

The group were among a selection of 29 galleries who put themselves forward for a new £5 million fund announced by The Art Fund in April this year which has the express intention of developing contemporary art collections across the country.

All the applicants were asked to provide information on how they would use their share of the money to fund further collection acquisitions, and now museums across the country - from Aberdeen to Eastbourne - are among those who find themselves a step closer to the fantastic fund.

Up to five of those who have now reached the second stage can expect to receive part of the contemporary art cash boost, with the Art Fund's final decision set to be announced in November this year.

The scheme drew huge praise on its initial inception, with Tate director Sir Nicolas Serota commenting at the time: "The Art Fund's significant new initiative promises to have an immense impact in Britain."
