A new exhibition set for London's Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) promises to capture the attention of visitors - as it will feature work from inmates at prisons, young offender institutions, psychiatric hospitals and immigration removal centres across the UK.Being run as part of the Koestler Awards, the Institute's challenging summer exhibition, entitled Inside Art, will show contemporary artworks made on a range of media, including painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics and textiles within the last 12 months.
After receiving more than 4,800 entries, this year's Koestler prize is set to be the most keenly-fought ever and will be the first time that the inside art has been shown at a public institution.
Writer Arthur Koestler founded the Koestler Trust in 1962 to promote creative arts across the criminal justice system, and the annual awards now come in Music Composition, Poetry, Prose, Playwriting, Computer Skills and Performance of the Spoken Word categories, with winners being judged voluntarily by more than 40 different expert judges.
