Abstract art among prize new Picasso exhibits

Published on: 11-Jul-2007
A range of unusual and abstract art pieces by 20th Century creative legend Picasso are among the star pieces on show at an enthralling new exhibition of his work being shown at the National Museum of Scotland.

Looking away from his normal cubist painting style, the new Edinburgh exhibition brings together a collection of the celebrated Spanish artists' later work, including abstract art creations on ceramics and metal.

Running until October 28th, the Fired with Passion exhibition features a vast range of pots and plates the artists produced between 1947 and 1961, when he lived and worked in Vallauris and Cannes in the south of France.

While some of the ceramic pieces simply act as alternative art canvases for Picasso's creative energies, others seem to have been used by the artist to exploit their particular own shape and form in showing curves and lines of the human body.

Other artworks on show at the exhibition include a range of some of Picasso's most popular paintings - many loaned from London's Tate Modern - as well as some much more rarely seen pieces acquired from private collections.

The new abstract art exhibition costs just £6 for adults and is open now.
