Don't fear wild wall art colours, top US designer urges

One of New York's most influential interior designers has urged homeowners to be prepared to take more risks when it comes to their wall art decorations.

Jamie Drake launched Drake Design Associates immediately after graduating in 1978, and has been an integral part of the US interior design scene ever since, now boasting a client list that includes Madonna and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Style icon Drake has long been a champion of using vibrant and bold colours and design schemes as part of any wall art plans and, speaking to silive.com, he said many people's interior inhibitions centre on laziness.

"I believe people's fear of colour is rooted in the idea that it is easier to match beiges than colours," comments Drake.

"I chalk it up to decorating laziness. Although the path less travelled may be more gratifying, most people prefer the route easiest navigated."

Recent work for Mayor Bloomberg has seen Drake bring new life to both Gracie Mansion, the long-time ceremonial residence of the city's mayor, and a number of rooms in New York's City Hall.
