Stone Roses star to show canvas art

John Squire, a former member of nineties band the Stone Roses, has hung up his guitar in favour of producing large canvas art.The musician has been busy putting the finishing touches to his wall art ahead of two exhibitions taking place over the coming months.
From July 4th to 28th Squire will be displaying artwork at the Smithfield Gallery near Smithfield Market and from September 6th to October 4th at the Dazed and Confused Gallery, Old Street.
For this latest work, the artist covered his canvas under sand, glue and wax before repainting over the surface, and then cutting into it to create texture-rich landscapes layered with colour.
Drawing on Pop Art and Expressionist influences, Squire's early work adorned the album covers and other promotional material for the Stone Roses and other band The Seahorses.
This most recent work is on a grander scale by far, combining large scale canvas paintings with mixed media pieces.
