Elaborate leather scores top contemporary interior design award

A new way of using leather in contemporary interior design which has scored strong international acclaim has now received a prestigious product design award. In partnership with Italian seating giant Matteograssi, Franco Poli's innovative contemporary interior design for his LOOM chair was developed after three years of extensive scientific research.
The final process sees a high-frequency laser-guided machine carve and contour leather, creating a net design with both huge capacity and great ventilation, reports infolink.com.
At the recent designEX Form and Function Trade Show, the largest design and architectural trade event in the Southern Hemisphere, LOOM was given the award for Best Product Design for Furniture, the show's judges recognising both its strong ergonomic and aesthetic credentials.
Commenting on his groundbreaking contemporary interior design product, Poli reflected: "It became clear with the first prototype, that LOOM was well suited to the body at rest. It could provide regular, elastic support even for unconventional or extremely relaxed positions. It's hard to imagine something similar to a hammock being as comfortable as a chaise-lounge."
Poli is now looking to extend the reach of his unique net design, with shade accessories and organising products set to be among the next of his creations.
