New York artists asked for unique art ideas

The acclaimed Queen's Museum of Art, in the heart of New York, has announced the launch of a new temporary exhibition which will ask four emerging creative talents to create site-specific unique art to help engage local communities. The new exhibition, entitled Corona Plaza: Center of Everywhere, will last until October and will ask the quartet to create tailored, unique art works to fit the specific demands of Corona Plaza, a collection of residential and shopping streets a stone's throw from the museum.
As part of a wider Heart of Corona scheme, aimed at uniting the local community and reenergising their local surroundings, the chosen foursome - Hector Canonge, Stephanie Diamond, Shaun El C Leonardo and Xaviera Simmons - have been asked to come up with artworks that focus on audience engagement, participation and enjoyment.
The Corona Plaza area was chosen in particular to be the hub for the unique art creations thanks to a significant demographic change in recent decades which, following an influx of immigrants from both Latin America and Asia, now makes it one of New York's most diverse cultural centres.
The unique art goes on display from July 1st.
