A South African cinema that has become one of the country's top hubs for contemporary art of all forms is set for further expansion after receiving mass popular acclaim.Cinema Nouveau Rosebank was opened five years ago in second city Durban, quickly establishing a reputation as the country's premier home for contemporary art fans to get their dose of foreign, arthouse or alternative movies on one of ten big screens.
A second complex is now set to open in capital city Johannesburg and, reflecting the positive feedback from visitors to the Durban site, this five-screen site will continue in the vein of offering movies away from the Hollywood norm, as well as a range cool contemporary art stylings for its interior design, reports screenafrica.com.
"In keeping with contemporary trends and feedback from customers, the intention has always been to offer the exclusive quality of Nouveau to a broader audience," commented Fiaz Mahomed, chief executive officer of Ster-Kinekor Theatres, the chain that operate both the Durban and the new Johannesburg cinemas.
"Coupled with our stylish new interiors and other exciting additions, we are confident that Cinema Nouveau will continue to be the leader when it comes to those audiences with a more discerning approach to their movie-going lifestyle," he added.
The original Durban movie-house has earned great praise for a range of 'double-seats', top-class sound and projector technology, a lounge full of funky art interiors and a constant 'festival feel'.
